2008 RYAN BEAULIEU RESEARCH GRANT AWARDS
The NMOS Research Grants Committee is pleased to announce the recipient of a
2008 Ryan Beaulieu Research Grant. He
will receive $1000 to support his research on

1. David J. Griffin, Griffin Biological Services, Las Cruces, NM Continued bird surveys in the higher elevations of the Big Burro Mountains, Grant County, New Mexico - David received a 2007 Ryan Beaulier Research Grant for previous surveys during the winter and presented a paper at the 2008 Annual Meeting on some of these results. The work to be funded with this year’s grant money will focus on filling in some of the blanks in our knowledge about the importance of this area for spring migration and to better understand the breeding bird community. The proposal suggests that point transect surveys be conducted at previously surveyed points during spring migration and the breeding season. These surveys will answer questions about chronology and species composition of spring migration, both through-migrants and returning breeders, and provide information about species composition, distribution, timing, and duration of the avian breeding season in the Big Burros. This NMOS grant will fund travel costs for the project.
We congratulate the recipient and thank other applicants for their proposals.
